TWOV in Beijing/Shanghai
Passengers from 51 countries can stay for up to 72 hours in 7 port cities, including Beijing and Shanghai, without a visa during their transfer in cities of Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Chongqing, Shenyang, Dalian, Xi'an and Guilin before continuing their journey to the third country or region.
Passengers shall hold valid travel documents that can prove their nationality and justify their travel to the third country or region.
Passengers must also have a ticket with confirmed reservations on a nonstop flight bound for the third country or region within 72 hours. Passengers to and from Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan are regarded as international passengers.
Passengers are not allowed to leave the administrative regions of Beijing and Shanghai.
For example, a passenger travels from Melbourne to Shanghai, and plans to transfer in Beijing before continuing his journey to Europe. The 72-hour transit visa-free stay policy for transit is not applicable to such a travel plan, because the city of entry (Shanghai in this case) is not the same as the city of exit (Beijing in this case).
Visit the official website www.bjbj.gov.cn and reference the FAQ for detailed regulations and more information on the transit visa-free stay policy.
