Air China’s recent special fares from SFO/LAX/NYC to Hong Kong (SAR) have been extremely popular. However, there is some confusion about the travel document requirements and we would like to provide some general clarification.

For passengers holding a PRC PASSPORT valid for at least 6 months, and other travel documents, please refer to applicable itinerary:

1. if destination is Hong Kong, a Hong Kong visa is required (see *Example below).
2. if travel is from China Mainland, to Hong Kong, return to China Mainland, a Hong Kong visa is required, OR an “Exit-entry Permit for Travelling to and From Hong Kong and Macao (EEP)” is required.

For passengers holding a HONG KONG (SAR CHINA) PASSPORT valid for at least 6 months travelling to Hong Kong via Beijing, the following is required:

1. a Permit for Hong Kong and Macao (SAR China) residents entering into or leaving from China Mainland (Hui Xiang Zheng), OR
2. a PRC Travel Permit issued by representatives of the People’s Republic of China.

Due to our routing from the USA to Hong Kong via Beijing, travelers who are PRC passport holders and U.S. permanent residents will need to apply for a Hong Kong visa. The visa applications and instructions can be downloaded from:

The application and other required documents can be submitted in person to the People’s Republic of China Consulate that holds jurisdiction over your area of residence.
